土浦一高・竹園高校3年生・4/19の授業(基礎英語)

今日は土浦一高、竹園高校3年生の基礎英語の授業でした。

 

基礎英語に関しては、語彙力がまだまだ不十分と思うので、

語彙力がそのまま点数に表れるような長文を選びました。

 

以下が、設問で聞かれた単語です。いくつ覚えているでしょうか。

 

sustainable

intense

sufficient

make a living

eliminate

distribute

achieve

employ

 

この中で、employだけは普段出てくる「雇う」の意味ではなく、useの意味でした。

普段から言っていることですが、まずは1単語につき1個の意味を確実におさえましょう。マイナーな意味についてはこのような機会に覚えてくれればいいのです(間違える経験を通したほうが記憶も定着しやすくなります)。

 

その他、授業で触れた例文を列挙しておきます。

 

①The United Nations has named March 22nd World Water Day to focus attention on the importance of fresh, clean water and to promote the sustainable management of fresh water resources.

 

②As urban populations and economies increase, so do water demands for cities and industry, leaving less for agriculture.

 

③Food security is critically dependent on a supply of clean water.

 

④We must develop more efficient water supply systems, eliminate leaks, and make sure that water is stored and distributed properly.

 

⑤In Australia people called Aborigines regarded the rainbow snakes as one of the creators of the earth.

 

⑥The issue of obesity rarely discussed before has attracted more public attention because of the documentary film.

 

⑦In order to promote his products, Sir Thomas Lipton had men dressed as Indians march through the city with placards.

 

 

 

①はnameが他動詞であることが意識して読めたか(さらに言うと5文型だとわかったか)。あとはsustainable management of fresh water resources.を「きれいな水源を維持できるように管理すること」と訳せれば完璧です。

 

②はsoがわかればOK

 

③はcriticallyを含め～lyとdependent on a supply of～を①と同様に動詞っぽく訳せればOK

 

④はmake sureができればOK

 

⑤～⑦は「他動詞なのに目的語がない＝分詞(過去分詞)」とわかってSVOCがとれればOKです。
